rox vs. delbarton swim meet
The Roxbury and Delbarton boys step up on the block and prepare to dive in for the 100 butterfly race.

February 3 was the last meet of the season for Roxbury and this boys only meet against Delbarton was also the last dual meet ever for seniors Tim Pessolano and Dave Frisch. The Roxbury boys lost to Delbarton with a score of Roxbury scoring 70 points and Delbarton scoring 70 points.

The meet started with the 200 medley, and Delbarton gained a 6 point lead from the beginning, by earning 10 points, and Roxbury earning 4 points for their second and fourth place finishes. The second place team consisted of seniors Dave Frisch and Tim Pessolano and sophomores Tyler Johnston and CJ Roland. The fourth place team consisted of junior Joe Fumosa, sophomores Eric Hill and DJ Ward, and freshman Michael Brauer.

The next event in the meet was the 200 freestyle, in which Roxbury earned a total of 7 points due to a second, fourth, and fifth place finish. The second place finisher was junior Eric Coraggio, the fourth place finisher was junior Dennis D’Abbracio, and the fifth place finisher was freshman Devon Laureys.

The third event in the meet was the 200 individual medley, in which Delbarton and Roxbury each earned 8 points apiece. In the 200 IM, Roxbury placed second, third, and fifth. Pessolano, swimming his last ever 200 IM as a high school student, finished second in the race, while Ward finished third, and Hill finished third.

The Roxbury verse Randolph meet was the last co-ed meet of the season for Roxbury, and though neither the Roxbury girls or Roxbury boys won their meet, they still produced good times, tried their hardest, and had fun. For Roxbury girl seniors, Jackie Fleck, Sarah Cummins, Lindsay Alexander, Ashley Sicsko, Kaitlin Dunn, Kayla Drobnis, and Stephanie Gonzales, this was their last dual meet ever as high school students.

In the 200 medley relay, Roxbury’s girls placed second, fourth, and sixth. The second place team consisted of freshman Ashley Singewald and Torie Miller, and for their last time swimming this race, seniors Jackie Fleck and Lindsay Alexander. The fourth place team consisted of two seniors, who it was their last time as well swimming this event, Ashley Sicsko and Sarah Cummins, junior Michelle Graham, and freshman Taylor MacEwen. For the boys, Roxbury placed third, fifth, and sixth. The third place team consisted of seniors Tim Pessolano, junior Eric Coraggio, and sophomores Tyler Johnston and CJ Roland.

The second race of the day was the 200 freestyle. Roxbury’s girls placed first, fifth, and sixth, while Singewald placing first. For the boys, Randolph swept the race, with Roxbury placing fourth, fifth, and sixth, with senior David Frisch placing fourth.

Roxbury suffered yet another loss on January 20th against West Morris Central. The West Morris’ boys managed to keep up the win and beat Roxbury with a score of 77 to 93. While the Roxbury girls, though they tried their hardest and swam as hard as they could, managed to lose to West Morris with West Morris’ girls ending with a massive 166 points to Roxbury’s girls ending with 64 points.

In the first event, the 200 medley relay, West Morris Central’s girls placed both first and third, while the Roxbury team of freshman Ashley Singewald and Taylor MacEwen and seniors Sarah Cummins and Lindsay Alexander placed second. West Morris Central’s first place team, Katin Papa, Emily Miles, Jenelle Zee, and Corrin Wolf were able to place first with a time seconds faster than the second place finisher. In the boys heat, Roxbury had finished second and third, while West Morris Central finished first. Roxbury’s second place team, seniors Tim Pessolano and Dave Frisch and sophomores Tyler Johnston and CJ Roland, just like the girls, gotten beat out by ten seconds by the first place finishers. Roxbury’s third place finishing team was freshman Michael Brauer, sophomores Eric Hill and David Ward, and junior Joe Fumosa.

The Roxbury verse Parsippany Hills meet was quite an interesting swim meet to watch. The Roxbury girls managed to dominate the Parsippany Hills girls, often sweeping the events, and placing first in every race except for one. The Roxbury girls swam their hardest and it showed, proving that Parsippany Hills was no match for the Roxbury girls, beating them 122 to 48.

On the other hand, Roxbury’s boys did have not have as good of a meet as their girls team did. The boys swam hard and produced good times, yet in the end Parsippany Hills beat them with a final score of Parsippany Hills earning 102 points and Roxbury earning 68.

In the first event, the 200 medley relay, Roxbury girls placed 12 points, while Parsippany Hills placed two. Roxbury’s girls placed first, second, and fifth in this event. The first place team consisted of freshman Ashley Singewald and Torie Miller, and Seniors Jackie Fleck and Lindsay Alexander. The second place team consisted of seniors Ashley Sicsko and Sarah Cummins, junior Michelle Graham, and freshman Taylor MacEwen. In Roxbury’s first swim meet against Saint Elizabeth’s Academy, and in the end, Saint Elizabeth beat Roxbury with a score of 54 points to 40 points in Saint Elizabeth’s four lane pool.

St. Elizabeth dominated in the first race, the 200 medley relay, placing first and second earning them a massive nine points verse Roxbury’s one point. It was this, the first race, in which Saint Elizabeth helped win the race since the rest of the meet was close.

Roxbury earned seven points verse Saint Elizabeth’s in the 200 freestyle. Freshman Ashley Singewald placed first with a time of 2:16:85 and senior Sarah Cummins placed third in the race. Saint Elizabeth’s Gabrielle Zingalis placed third.

In the 200 individual medley, both Saint Elizabeth and Roxbury earned four points. Senior Lindsay Alexander placed first with a time of 2:27:94. The second place finisher, Dani Martinez from Saint Elizabeth’s, finished five seconds after Alexander and the third place finisher, Laurel Repsha finished 2 seconds after Martinez.

In the 50 freestyle, freshman Torie Miller placed first with :a time of 47:42, beating second place finisher, Saint Elizabeth’s freshman Shannon Law-Clark by less than fourty tenths of a second. Saint Elizabeth’s Katie Golway placed third.
